Product Name: BMS Temporary Filling
Brand: BMS Dental
Product Type: Temporary filling material used for interim restoration and cavity sealing.

1. General Description

BMS Temporary Filling is a ready-to-use provisional restorative material formulated primarily from calcium sulfate and zinc oxide. It is designed to harden quickly in the oral environment (in contact with saliva), forming a physical barrier that temporarily seals the cavity or access opening during dental treatment.

2. Clinical Indications

This material is clinically indicated for:

  • Short-term cavity sealing between treatment visits.

  • Interim restoration following preparation prior to definitive restoration placement.

  • Temporary protection of tooth structure and pulp between appointments.
It is not intended as a long-term restorative material and should be replaced with definitive restorations as soon as appropriate.

Note: Temporary fillings generally maintain occlusal function and protect prepared teeth until the permanent treatment is completed.

3. Key Technical Features

  • Calcium sulfate and zinc oxide formulation: Provides quick setting and manageable handling

Ready to use paste: Requires no mixing before application — placed directly from the jar.

  • Rapid setting under saliva: The material hardens rapidly when exposed to oral moisture, enabling efficient chairside placement.

  • Temporary mechanical barrier: Helps block microorganism ingress and protects the internal cavity during interim healing.

  • White color: Suitable for anterior and posterior provisional restorations where esthetics are modestly considered.

4. Handling & Application

  1. Prepare the cavity: Clean and dry the prepared tooth area.

  2. Apply material: Place the temporary filling directly into the cavity using dental instruments.

  3. Contour and adapt: Shape to follow occlusal anatomy and ensure adequate seal.

  4. Harden in situ: The material sets quickly with exposure to saliva.

  5. Removal: Easily removed chairside before definitive restorative procedures.

5. Packaging

  • Typically supplied in a jar format, e.g., 40 g or 30 g depending on the supplier presentation.

6. Clinical Advantages

  • Rapid setting and ease of placement support efficient chairside use.

  • Interim protection and sealing help maintain tooth integrity until final restoration.

  • Easy removal prior to definitive treatment without complex instrumentation.

  • No eugenol interference in many formulations — suitable when future resin-based materials may be used (as with many BMS products)
